Prom Queen’s Walk Off Homer Lifts Lady Dogs Past Massac

Another week, another thrilling come-from-behind win for the Carmi-White County Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Dogs welcomed Massac County to Archie Brown Field on Monday for their first game in 11 days. Carmi didn’t play last week after Eldorado forfeited both scheduled games, and then a newly added game against Gallatin County was also canceled. The Lady Bulldogs weren’t even supposed to play Massac County on Monday, Mt. Vernon (IN) canceled late last week, and the Lady Patriots were willing to fill in.

Carmi had to shake off some rust early, as Massac jumped out to a 6-1 lead midway through 3 innings.

Alayna Johnson got the Lady Dogs right back in it with her first home run of the season, a 3-run bomb to make it a 6-3 ballgame.

Massac was able to plate another run in the 5th inning, extending their lead to 7-3, but the Lady Dogs didn’t blink.

Carmi answered with 2 runs of their own in the 5th, courtesy of an RBI double by Johnson who would later come in to score on a dropped 3rd strike. It was 7-5 Massac heading into the 6th.

The scoreboard wasn’t touched until the bottom of the 7th inning. Torrie Rider reached on an error with one out, putting the tying run at the plate, in stepped Alayna Johnson. Johnson crushed her second homer of the day over the center field fence, sending the game into extras tied at 7-7.

The Lady Patriots however scored 2 runs in the top of 8th inning to re-claim a 9-7 lead.

Addi Elliott led off the home 8th with a single, followed by a walk from Bri Hale, the Lady Dogs brought the winning run to the plate.

Torrie Rider stepped in the batters box, just a short 72 hours after being named CWCHS Prom Queen. Rider swung at the second pitch she saw, and sent a towering fly ball over the center field fence. A walk-off 3-run homer gave the Lady Bulldogs a 10-9 miraculous come-from-behind victory.

Despite the offensive fireworks, freshman Maggie Pearce played a vital role in Monday’s win in the pitchers circle. After a rough start from Lindsay Simmons, Pearce came in and helped stopped the bleeding and keep the Lady Dogs alive. Pearce picks up her 3rd win of the season allowing 3 runs on 6 hits with 3 strikeouts.

At the plate,
Addi Elliott: 2 for 5, 2 Runs
Bri Hale: 2 for 4, 2 Runs
Torrie Rider: 1 for 5, 3-Run HR (3)
Alayna Johnson: 4 for 4, 5 RBI, 3 Runs, 2 HRs (2)
Ashlyn Rager: 1 for 3
Caroline Simmons: RBI
Mia Evans: 2 for 4

The Lady Bulldogs are now 8-8 on the season. They will host Fairfield on Tuesday.
