Personnel moves highlight NCOE School Board meeting

The NCOE District School Board meeting was held Wednesday, May 16th.  The minutes and the bills were approved as presented.

The meeting was highlighted with personnel moves for the 2018-2019 school year.  Those employed were Marsha Humphrey as a Jr. High reading teacher at NCO and Jr. High cheer sponsor; Charla Lewis as the Booth special education teacher; and Stephen Humphrey as the 7th grade basketball coach.

The Board also accepted the resignations of Evan Wyllie as the high school P.E. teacher and basketball coach; and Shannon Webb as the special education teacher at Booth.

The principals reported that end of the year activities are in full swing.  The 8th grade end of year trip to Holiday World will be Friday and the 8th grade graduations will be May 21st.  Awards day for NCO and Booth will be May 17th.  The Kindergarten classes will graduate on the morning of May 22nd.  Last day of student attendance will be May 24 with a 2:00 p.m. dismissal.

The Senior class had a safe and enjoyable trip to Washington, D.C.  The Senior class graduated last week.  At Senior Honors, $440,000 in scholarships were handed out.

Mr. Lucas and Mrs. Braden were present at the meeting.  They both provided an outline of their daily activities in the schools and also gave the Board members insight into some of the challenges and rewards of their jobs and their interactions with students.  The Board was appreciative for this information.

The principals wanted to thank the Ministerial Alliance and Crossroads Church for hosting all of the graduates.

The Enfield PTO will be providing an end of the year fun day for the students of Booth on May 23rd.

Mr. Vollman updated the board on the necessary summer maintenance projects that are planned.  Some of those include updating the sinks and faucets in the elementary wing of NCO; replacing water lines in the boiler room at NCO; resealing and striping the track at NCOE; updating the tennis courts and basketball court at NCOE; and replacing several exterior doors at NCOE as part of the ongoing safety updates taking place.

In other business the Board:

– Let bids for dairy, bread and cafeteria supplies.

– Approved the Hazardous Traffic Resolution for IDOT.

– Set a hearing for 7:00 p.m. June 20 for the amended 2017-2018 budget.

– Adopted the Prevailing Wage Ordinance.

– Approved a Resolution of School Safety and Protection.
