An armed robbery in Mt. Carmel late Tuesday morning ended with 3 subjects in custody while another is still being sought. Just after 11:30am yesterday, Mt. Carmel Police and Wabash County Sheriff’s authorities were notified of the robbery taking place at the local Verizon store on the corner of 9th and Cherry. Law enforcement were told 2 black males entered a black vehicle with Indiana registration and headed north following the robbery. Lawrence County officers were able to locate that vehicle but couldn’t get them pulled over and the suspects continued into Crawford County.
The chase came to an end after the suspects’ vehicle struck a police car. While three individuals were taken into custody, another ran off into a wooded stretch of land just inside Crawford County.
Police say they’ve recovered at least one handgun they suspect was used in the robbery. No names have been released pending formal charges being filed. Several agencies are working cooperatively on the ongoing investigation and search. We’ll have more as it develops.
