Nighttime Enforcement Numbers Announced

Illinois State Police announced the results of a Nighttime Enforcement (NITE) Patrol in Wayne County conducted recently.

There were two driving under the influence citations issued along with two other alcohol drug related citations.

There was one occupant restraint ticket issued. There were four registration offenses and four driver’s license offenses reported. There were also five insurance violations noted during the patrol.

State police issued a total of 23 citations and 35 written warnings were issued.

The NITE patrols allow state police to focus on preventing, detecting and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations, especially between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.

Over half of all fatal crashes in the state occur at night. The NITE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous impaired drivers from the road and making sure everyone is buckled up.

The project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
