“NEVER TOO LATE” – AN INVITATIONAL EXHIBITION
Mt. Carmel, IL – The Art and Design Department of Vincennes University is proud to announce its Poster Art Exhibition at Wabash Valley College, featuring the work of the Senior Graphic Design students under the direction of Professor Pravin Sevak. The exhibition will be on display through March 18 in the Brubeck Arts Center Gallery.
This year’s theme, “It’s Never Too Late – Sexual Assault/Abuse Awareness,” is a part of Professor Sevak’s efforts to engage students in timely and topical themes that have relevance and meaning in today’s culture. In the beginning of this project, Ms. Dena Held, Director of CASA-Court Appointed Special Advocates, and Ms. Kathy Evans, Counselor LCSW, offered information and activities organized by CASA and Voices’ United – VU initiative to the students.
Throughout the month of April 2018, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), students have been researching and studying the extent that the tragedy of assault and abuse has on our culture and in our world. The posters demonstrate the often-unrelenting heartaches that can overwhelm victims and their families, but they also reveal the resilience of the human spirit and its ability to heal.
Ultimately, students’ posters represent the facts about domestic abuse and demonstrate the different kinds of abuse. Many of the students wanted to let the community know that domestic violence is not limited to physical violence; in fact, they discovered that emotional abuse is far more common than we realized. In the United States approximately 3 out of 4 people know someone who has been a victim of domestic abuse.
They hope that these posters will encourage anyone who sees them to take some form of action, whether it is making the call to report domestic abuse or simply just passing along information about this serious, but often unseen, reality.
