NCOE School Board approves budget

The Board held a public hearing on the 2017-2018 budget prior to the regular board meeting and approved a resolution for submission of the budget at the regular Board meeting.

Superintendent Matt Vollman told the Board that the state has passed an education budget but it is still a work in progress. During the regular Board meeting, the board approved the budget with estimated positive balances in each category at the end of the year.  The budget will soon be available on the district website.

Student enrollment is up.  The Board approved the 6 day enrollment at the meeting.  The district showed an overall increase of 28 students compared to last year.

The Board congratulated the entire summer maintenance crew at Booth, NCO and NCOE on a job well done.  All the buildings are looking great.  That crew included the new employees who were in attendance for the meeting: Andy Downen, custodian at NCO; Ryan Trueblood, Science Teacher at NCO; Kory Sutton, Ag Teacher at NCOE and Bus Driver; and Donnie Starks, custodian at NCOE.

The NCOE Volleyball team has won the NCOE Invitational and is having a good season overall.  The Dave Gray Cross-Country Invitational was a success and was enjoyed by many visiting teams.  The High School Marching Band has recently marched at Ridgway and Murphysboro and placed 3rd.  The percussion and drum majors received a 1st place honor.

On October 12, NCOE Volleyball team will be hosting Galatia for a special lime green game honoring Judy Gregory and the proceeds will be donated to the Lymphoma Society.  T-shirts are on sale now through the schools and items will be sold and raffled off that evening.
