A Muddy, Illinois man was arrested after battering an officer Saturday night. Saline County Deputy Craig Williams was investigating a disturbance outside the Bella Padra Garden Apartments at 2475 US 45 North at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Williams was speaking with Robert D. Starnes 50, of Muddy; when Starnes became agitated after EMS arrived to evaluate Starnes. Starnes then became aggressive with Deputy Williams. Starnes struck Deputy Williams and before knocking him to the ground. Starnes then barricaded himself into the apartment.
Officers from Harrisburg and Eldorado Police Departments responded to assist Deputy Williams. A short time later, Starnes was placed into custody after being Tasered and taken to the Saline County Detention Center. Starnes was charged with Aggravated Battery of a Police Officer.
