Mt. Vernon Fall Festival this Weekend

While the White County Fall Festivals take a break this weekend, there is a fall festival in Mt. Vernon, Ill beginning Friday and running through Sunday.

The Seventh Annual Fall Festival, presented by Continental Tire returns to Ninth Street in downtown Mt. Vernon. This year’s festival will get underway around 5 Friday, as the vendors, featuring food, craft and information will be opening at that time. The weekend’s musical entertainment will fill out Friday’s activities. Big Rain, from St. Louis will kick off the music shortly after 5. Platinum Rock Legends featuring tributes to Journey, Bon Jovi, Queen and more will round out Friday’s musical acts.

Saturday is a full day.

The third annual 5 K for Special Olympics will start at 8 Saturday. The downtown Mt. Vernon Cruise In, featuring close to a100 cars, trucks and motorcycles will take place from 9 until 2. Hot Rod Nights will provide music for the car show.

The Crossroads Community Hospital Parade will begin at 10, celebrating Illinois’ Bicentennial with the theme, Illinois Proud, Celebrating 200 years. The Marching Band Expo, awarding thousands of dollars in prize money to local marching bands will return to this year’s parade. There will be a great pumpkin contest from 8 until 11.

DNA Acoustic will perform from noon until 2. Southern Illinois native and rising country music star, Mo Pitney will be the featuring entertainment Saturday night.

Sunday will be Blues Day as a number of local and regional blues bands will entertain throughout the day. Cat Daddy O will play shortly after 1. Al Holliday and the East Side Rhythm Band will follow and St. Louis native marquise Knox will wrap up the event.
