The Illinois State Police are investigating a traffic accident involving a Mt. Carmel Police Officer that occurred in Wabash County on Wednesday.
According to the preliminary crash report, 24 year old John M. Morris of Mt. Carmel attempted to cross Walnut Street at 4th Street when he failed to notice Officer Kyle McCleave travelling north on Walnut. McCleave’s squad car struck Morris’s vehicle in the passenger side and both vehicles left the road, ending up in the yard of a residence.
A 16 year old male in Morris’s vehicle was transported by ambulance to Wabash General Hospital. Morris transported himself to the hospital for treatment of injuries, and Officer McCleave was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. Both cars had to be towed from the scene.
Morris was cited for failure to yield. District 19 was assisted at the scene by the Mt. Carmel Police Department, Wabash County Sheriff’s Department, and the Wabash County Ambulance Service.
