Movement Finally in Two High Profile White County Court Cases

Two cases featuring charges that allegedly occurred a year and a half ago and have been moved to special prosecutors are finally getting some movement this week.  In October of 2023, Christy Cribbs was charged with Theft between $10,000 and $100,000 from the school where she was employed.  In January of this year, Phillip Butler was assigned as Special Prosecutor in the case.  Cribbs had a first appearance on April 3rd and is due back in Williamson County court where the case was moved to be heard before Chief Circuit Judge William Thurston on Thursday.  That’s for a preliminary hearing.

Additionally, it’s now been about 86 weeks since attorney Rhonda Blades allegedly shot and killed a dog that bit a neighbor’s 11-year-old boy.

According to online court records, an FTC/FTA notice has been set for today (4/22/25) at 1pm.  That case has also been moved to Williamson County court and the honorable William Thurston.  In January of this year, the Appellate Prosecutor advised they were still reviewing case materials and would advise.  That review was set for last Tuesday, the 15th.  Since the alleged offense occurred, Blades has gone on to serve as the public defender in Wabash County, assigned by Second Circuit Chief Judge Melissa Morgan to provide free legal services through the Lawyer in the Library program last August, and in January of this year, Blades was hired by Wayne County States Attorney Kyle Ellis as Assistant States Attorney there.  She was sworn in by Judge Denton Aud, former White County States Attorney who held that office when the alleged offense happened.  Blades has still yet to be formally charged.
