More events announced for Memorial Day Bicentennial Celebration

The Carmi Chamber of Commerce and the White County Agriculture Society are pleased to announce several Bicentennial events.

The White County Agriculture Society has retained Brady Amusements to be at the fairgrounds May 26-29.  The midway will be available for the enjoyment of your family.  Ride tickets will be available for purchase at the fairground those dates.

In addition to the midway, the White County Agriculture Society will also be bringing in a variety of food vendors.

On Friday, May 27 at 6pm, the Carmi Chamber of Commerce will be showing a historical video of Main Street in Carmi.  Admission for the video is free.

On Saturday, May 28, a full day of activities is planned.  An old fashion pie and cookie baking contest will be held.  Pies, made by those ages 14 and up may be delivered to the Floral Hall between 5-6pm on Friday, May 27 or between 8-9am on Saturday, May 28.  Cream pies are not allowed.  Items may be pick up after 4pm on Saturday, May 28 at the Floral Hall.

A cookie baking contest will be held for children ages 6-10 and 11-13 and may be delivered to the Floral Hall between 5-6pm on Friday, May 27 or between 8-9am on Saturday, May 28.  Items may be pick up after 4pm on Saturday, May 28 at the Floral Hall.

Those wishing to display canned goods or garden produce may do so as well.

A hat decorating contest will also be held.  Those wishing to display a hat they have decorated may deliver one to the Floral Hall between 5-6pm on Friday, May 27 or between 8-9am on Saturday, May 28.  There will be both an adult and youth division.  Items may be picked up after 4pm on Saturday, May 28 at the Floral Hall.

The Floral Hall will open at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 28 for viewing.  John Schofield and Frances Matheny will host a chowder at 11am with proceeds going to Relay for Life.

 

 

At 11:15 am the Enfield Blue Ribbon 4-H Club will host a Food Judging Workshop.  The club will have cookies to judge and a leader will talk about the judging process.  The public is welcome to attend.

At 12:30pm a pie eating contest will be held.  Pre-registration is required by calling the Chamber office at 382-7606.  There will be an adult and youth division.  After the pie eating contest, old fashion games for kids will commence.

At 6pm on Saturday, May 28, the Carmi Chamber of Commerce will show the video, “A Tribute to our WWII Veterans, a Presentation of the White County Historical Society.”  Admission is free.
