The following subjects were arrested by the Mt. Carmel Police Department. All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
06/10/2016-Mt. Carmel Police were called to Brewsky’s Bar reference a theft. When officer’s arrived on scene they were told that Dustin L. Kieffer, age 29, of Mt. Carmel had taken a wallet from a patron. Kieffer admitted to taking the wallet and was subsequently arrested for theft under $500.00. A portion of the money reported stolen was recovered and given back to the victim. Kieffer was transported to the Wabash County Jail and held pending the posting of bond.
Mt. Carmel Police stopped a 2004 Ford for committing a traffic offense in the 400 block of W. 5th Street. The arresting officer reported stopping the vehicle and identifying the driver as William E. Birkla, age 49, of Mt. Carmel. The arresting officer reported an alcoholic beverage smell coming from the person of Birkla. After a series of tests, Birkla was arrested for suspicion of driving while under the influence. Birkla was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with DUI, disobeying a stop sign, and expired registration. Birkla was held pending the posting of bond.
