The following subjects were arrested by the Mt. Carmel Police Department. All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
08/17/2017-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 33 year old Derek L. Batterton of Mt. Carmel after he was stopped at 3rd and Market Street. The arresting officer observed Batterton operating a 1997 Jeep and knew he was wanted on a Wabash County warrant charging him with theft. The arresting officer stopped the vehicle and placed Batterton under arrest. Batterton was transported to the Wabash County Jail and held pending the posting of $150.00 cash.
Mt. Carmel Police arrested a 19 year old Cole W. Stewart of Mt. Carmel on a number of charges. Stewart was arrested after police were called to the Wabash County Health Department reference a subject acting suspicious. Stewart was located and items found on his person were items reported stolen during a burglary earlier in the day. Stewart was also found to be in possession of narcotics. Stewart was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, theft (2 counts), burglary, and he was cited for being in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Stewart is being held in the Wabash County Jail. The burglaries are still under investigation and could lead to more charges.
Mt. Carmel Police arrested a homeless man identified as 52 year old Carl W. Current after police received a complaint of him yelling obscenities at individuals at the intersection of 5th and Market. Current was located and told responding officer’s that he was just passing through the area. Current was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Current is being held pending the posting of bond.
08/18/2017-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 1 juvenile female and two minors for underage drinking after police were called to a load noise complaint at 1010 W. 9th Street. Mt. Carmel officers arrested 19 year old Trais Lowe of Evansville and 19 year old Draven Davis of Mt. Carmel. Lowe was charged with sale, gift, delivery of alcohol to a minor. Davis was charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. The 17 year old juvenile was cited for illegal consumption of alcohol. Lowe and Davis were transported to the Wabash County Jail and were released after receiving their charges.
