The following subjects have been arrested by the Mt. Carmel Police. All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
02/09/2017-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 29 year old Joseph D. Payne of Mt. Carmel after police were called to 1018 Plum Street reference a disturbance. When police arrived on scene they were told that Payne was intoxicated and had ripped a gas heater from the wall of the residence. The complainant advised she smelled gas after Payne ripped the heater from the wall. The complainant was able to get her children out of the home and called the Police. Mt. Carmel Fire Department was dispatched to the residence and secured the scene. Payne was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with criminal damage to property, reckless conduct, and endangering the life or health of a child. Payne is currently house in the Wabash County Jail where he is being held pending a bond hearing.
02/10/2017-The Mt. Carmel Police are currently investigating a theft that occurred at the Wabash Valley College dorms located at 119 Risley Avenue in Mt. Carmel. Police were called to an apartment at the dorms around 3:30 am this morning. The complainant advised that a male subject entered her apartment accusing her of stealing his wallet. The complainant advised the male subject then threatened to kill her and her friends if he didn’t get $700.00 from them. The complainant stated she went to two ATM’s with the suspect to get the $700.00. After receiving $700.00 from the student, the suspect returned the complainant to her residence on Risley Avenue. The complainant made reference to having a handgun during the incident. Police were able to get a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was riding in. Police located the suspect vehicle in the 600 block of Peach Street and were able to make an arrest. Police arrested 20 year old Daniel Dydo of Mt. Carmel and transported him to the Wabash County Jail. Police were able to recover evidence at the residence where Dydo was found. Dydo is currently being held on one count of theft over $500.00 (class 3 felony). This case is still under investigation and more charges could be filed. At this time no bond has been set.
