The following subjects were arrested by the Mt. Carmel Police Department. All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
06/16/2017-Mt. Carmel Police arrested two subjects after investigating a domestic disturbance that occurred in the 100 block of N. Chestnut Street. Police were told that 29 year old Joseph D. Payne of Mt. Carmel threw a beer bottle against a door causing injury to a juvenile standing close by. Police caught up to Payne in the 200 block of N. Walnut Street. Payne’s brother, Adam L. Payne, age 27, drove his brother to the 200 block of Walnut Street where the police met up with them. The reporting officer noticed a strong alcoholic beverage smell coming from Adam Payne. After further investigation, Adam Payne was arrested for DUI. Both subjects were transported to the Wabash County Jail. Joseph Payne was charged with domestic battery and endangering the life of a child. Adam Payne was charged with DUI and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Both subjects were held pending the posting of bond.
An adult and one minor were arrested after police were called to the 1000 block of Poplar Street reference an underage drinking party. 21 year old Krista D. Baxley of Allendale is charged with providing alcohol to a minor. Baxley is charged with providing 18 year old Kiana M. Kirsch with alcohol. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Baxley was charged with sale, gift, or delivery of alcohol to a minor. Kirsch was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both subjects were held pending the posting of bond.
Mt. Carmel Police arrested 41 year old Tammy L. Vessels (Nold) of Mt. Carmel after she came to the Mt. Carmel Police Department to check on a family member. It was discovered that Vessels was wanted on a Wabash County failure to appear warrant. Vessels was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was held pending the posting of $200.00 cash.
Mt. Carmel Police arrested 56 year old Joseph E. Baker of Mt. Carmel after he was accused of violating an order of protection. Baker is charged with knowingly being within 500 feet of a protected person. Baker was located in the 100 block of S. Cherry Street and placed under arrest. Baker was held pending the posting of bond.
06/17/2017-Mt. Carmel Police were called to the 400 block of W. 2nd Street reference a male subject busting windows out of a residence. When police arrived on scene they located a 42 year old Timothy M. Wright of Mt. Carmel. Wright told the officer’s that he was trying to provide air to the occupant inside. Wright was subsequently arrested by the Police after the owner advised she didn’t wish to have her windows busted and that there was not legitimate reason to bust the windows. Wright was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with criminal damage to property. Wright was held pending the posting of bond.
Mt. Carmel Police arrested 24 year old Jesika R. Moreno of Mt. Carmel after she was stopped in on W. 3rd Street for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop it was discovered that Moreno was driving on a suspended driver’s license. Moreno was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was held pending the posting of bond. Moreno was cited for driving suspended.
Mt. Carmel Police arrested 18 year old Gwen K. Iles of Mt. Carmel after she was stopped for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop it was discovered that Iles was driving on a suspended driver’s license. Iles was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was cited for driving on a suspended driver’s license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Iles was held pending the posting of bond.
Mt. Carmel Police arrested 55 year old Mickey M. Steward of Xenia after police were notified of a suspicious person in the area of Pinehurst Street. Police located Steward who advised he was searching for a missing cell phone. A pat down of the suspect resulted in Police located a glass smoking device with suspected methamphetamine residue. Steward was arrested and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Steward was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. The glass pipe has been sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for analysis. More charges could be filed at a later date. Steward was held pending the posting of bond.
06/18/2017-Mt. Carmel Police arrested 24 year old Jacob S. Wilkinson of Mt. Carmel after MCPD Officers observed Wilkenson in the area of 5th Street and Ash Street. Wilkinson was known to have a Wabash County failure to appear warrant. Police arrested Wilkinson and during the arrested they located a “one-hitter” smoking pipe. Wilkinson was arrested and served the FTA warrant and he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Wilkinson was transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was held pending the posting of bond.
