Broadway Street will experience an influx of traffic on Tuesday, May 22nd as over 500 motorcycle riders will proceed through Mt. Vernon as a part of the 30th Annual Run for the Wall Ride. The public is encouraged to seek alternate routes such as Veteran’s Memorial Drive between 12:15-1:15 p.m. as riders will be exiting the interstate, fueling up, and proceeding to the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport for a donated luncheon. If travel is not needed during that time, the public is encouraged to line Broadway Street with flags and other signs of appreciation to cheer on bikers as they ride across town.
Bikers across the nation assemble annually for the Run for the Wall ride that promotes healing among veterans, calls for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA), honors the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA), and supports our military personnel all over the world. The ride begins in California and ends at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. Mt. Vernon is their only stop in Illinois.
