The White County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a burglary that occurred on Saturday while a Carmi family was mourning the loss of their husband and father.
Deputies responded to a call at 4:28pm at the residence of Donna Matz, who told responding officers that upon returning home from the funeral of her husband Hank, found a door to the house open and the house rummaged through. Matz reported the burglars had taken all of her jewelry, while Joseph Matz reported a 9mm handgun also missing.
Illinois State Police Crime Scene technicians were called in to process the crime scene. The case remains under investigation.
