Major rain
Area residents faced water covered roadways around the area Wednesday morning following heavy rains that fell across Southeastern Illinois and the tri-state.
Rain totals in downtown Carmi measured close to an inch, with other locations receiving even more rain.
Several rural roads and a number of local highways, including Route One had water standing across the road, forcing some drivers to find alternate routes around the flooded roadways.
Area motorists are reminded not to drive through standing water, as the water may be deeper than anticipated, or the roadway may have washed out, creating dangerous conditions.
The National Weather service says the rains are not over, as there is a chance of continued rain and possible thunderstorms through Friday.
