Local Hunters Top 2017 Deer Harvest

 

Illinois hunters harvested 80,896 deer during the two part shotgun deer season which concluded this past weekend. The numbers are a little over 700 more than last year.

The early numbers indicate the second half of the season, statewide hunters harvested 22,060 deer, down from the 2017 second half total of 28,656. Hunters took 58,836 deer the first half of the two part firearm season.

Here in White County, hunters harvested 772 deer this season. 527 deer were taken during the first half of the season, with only 245 deer harvested in the second half of the season.

Wayne County hunters took a total of 1,479 deer this year.

There were 199 deer harvested in Wabash County.

Saline County hunters took a total of 945, while Pope County hunters tagged 1438 animals.

A total of 1150 deer were harvested in Hamilton County, while Gallatin County hunters bagged 421 white tails.

Edwards County hunters took a total of 425 animals this year. Clay County hunters bagged a total of 1219 deer during the two part season.

Hunters will still have a couple chances to hunt white tails. The muzzleloader only deer season is this weekend, Dec. 7 through the 9th.

The late winter antlerless only deer season will be Dec. 27 to the 30th and then again from jan 18 and 19 of the new year.

Plus the archery deer season continues through Jan. 20 of 2019.
