Flooding Continues
Rainfall is expected to pick up this (Tues) afternoon and into tonight.
While the rain may be mixed with snow at times, but will change to all rain overnight.
Minor to moderate flooding remains forecast on most area rivers and additional anticipated rainfall coming in the week and then again over the weekend will only serve to aggravate existing flood issues.
The Little Wabash River here in Carmi is under a flood warning until Saturday evening.
The river measured 33.2 feet last night at the bridge here in Carmi. Flood stage is 27 feet here in Carmi. The river should start a slow fall and will drop below flood stage by this weekend, that depending upon the amount of rain received this week.
At 32 feet, flood waters flow up McHenry Slough and areas near Route One and 14 begin to flood here in Carmi.
The Wabash River at New Harmony also continues to flow out of its banks.
The flood warning for the Wabash at New Harmony will continue through Wednesday.
The river measurered 20 feet Monday. Flood stage is 15 feet at New Harmony. The river will continue to fall and is expected to fall below flood stage by next Wednesday, Feb. 27.
At twenty feet, parts of northern New Harmony begin to flood and some minor sandbagging becomes necessary.
The flood waters have closed a number of rural roads around the area, including here in White County.
Motorists are reminded to never drive through flood waters, as the depth of water is unknown and could result in a stuck vehicle. Although there have been no official reports of stranded vehicles, WROY/WRUL News is aware of at least two unreported cases of stranded vehicles in the past month.
