At the weekly meeting of the Carmi Kiwanis Club, Kim Gwaltney, a past president of Kiwanis, served as master of ceremony for the presentation of the Legion of Honor award to four members who have served the club faithfully.
To be eligible for the award a member must have a minimum of 25 years of service as a Kiwanian. Then a member may again be so honored with each succeeding five years of membership.
Interestingly, Ms. Gwaltney introduced each honoree with a trivia game of local sport’s happenings contributed by Toby Brown as well as other events of the year being recognized.
Those recognized and receiving a framed plaque and lapel pin were 25-year member, Andrea Hays, who joined in 1994; Dave Johnson, 30-year member who joined in 1989; Scott Rice, a 35-year member joining in 1984; and Keith Hoskins, a 40-year member of two clubs – Charleston and Carmi – initially joining in 1979. Keith also has served as a Lieutenant Governor in Kiwanis International.
In Club business President, Eric Rahlfs, welcomed guests Debbie Hoskins, wife of Keith Hoskins, Mary Lee Saunders and Anna Baumgart, prospective members representing Banterra Bank, and Don Winkleman.
Winkleman spoke briefly about the upcoming Salvation Army campaign to raise funds to assist local citizens. He stated that
funds raised here are spent here. This is Winkleman’s 20th year as local chairman raising approximately $20,000 each year.
In closing, President Rahlfs presented Winkleman a $250 donation from Kiwanis to help launch the Salvation Army campaign.
