Illinois Farm Bureau issues statement regarding EPA’s 2017 Renewable Fuel Standard Draft

“While we applaud EPA for the timeliness of its 2017 proposal and for expanding the use of biofuels next year by another 700 million gallons, once again we believe the agency’s proposal falls short of maximizing the potential of the U.S. biofuels industry. By setting an even higher target, EPA could incentivize the oil industry to invest in fuel infrastructure that would accommodate higher blend levels”, said Illinois Farm Bureau (IFB) President Richard Guebert, Jr.

“On the surface, EPA’s announcement seems to be minimizing the impact of the nation’s highest level of motor fuel demand in a decade and the coming availability of millions of gallons of E-15 blends at the fuel retailers in the Illinois and several other states as part of USDA’s Biofuels Infrastructure Partnership.

“Illinois Farm Bureau will be commenting and encouraging our members to comment on EPA’s proposed RFS rule.”
