The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is seeking a civil penalty and cost recovery from Wayne County Well Surveys, Inc. of more than $75,000 after the company reported losing a radioactive well logging source holder last fall.
Wayne County Well Surveys notified the IEMA in October that it could not locate the device, which was locked in a metal box after it was last seen in a company vehicle. The agency assisted in searching for the device, which has still not been found.
IEMA is seeking a $25,000 penalty against the company for losing the device, which is regulated by the agency, and $52, 865.45 in response cost recovery. Wayne County Well Surveys can request a hearing in response to the preliminary order issued Thursday.
