The Board of Trustees approved the employment of two new deans at the regular meeting Tuesday, June 20th, at Lincoln Trail College, Robinson. Employed was Michael Conn as Dean of Instruction at Olney Central College and Brent Todd as Dean of Instruction at Lincoln Trail College.
Brent Todd will assume the role of Dean of Instruction at LTC on July 5, 2017. Mr. Todd currently serves as the Assistant Director of Regional Programs for the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Prior to joining SIU, he served as the Director of Dual Credit at Lake Land College in Mattoon for seven years. Todd was a full-time biology instructor at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston from 2002-2008 and he served as an adjunct instructor at both Danville Area Community College and Lake Land Community College. The Charleston resident is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in public administration from the University of Illinois at Springfield. He holds both a master’s degree in biological sciences and a bachelor’s degree in botany from Eastern Illinois University.
Michael Conn will assume the role of Dean of Instruction at OCC on June 26, 2017. Mr. Conn has 18 years’ experience in the education field. He has been an art instructor at Olney Central College for nine years and previously taught in Michigan’s Iron Mountain and Grand Haven public schools. A resident of Olney, Conn is in the process of completing his Ph.D. in art education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned a master’s degree in art and humanities from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in education from Grand Valley State University with certification in elementary education and art education. He is a member of the National Education Association, the National Art Education Association and the American Student Government Association.
Lease or sub-lease agreements were renewed for off campus locations where IECC programs are offered.
As a part of IECC’s commitment to provide a safe and crime free college environment, and in accordance with the Campus Security Enhancement Act of 2008, the Board approved the Violence Prevention Plan and Emergency Response Plans for each college. These plans outline violence prevention strategies and outlines the protocol for response should a violent act occur.
Construction easements were granted for District owned property located along Route 130 in Olney.
As a part of the continuing review of District policies, several policy revisions were approved to bring current policies up to date or in line with current practice.
Applications for new buildings for FY2019 were approved by the Board of Trustees. Two capital project requests in ranking order were submitted to the Illinois Community College Board for consideration of funding. Olney Central College requested funding for an Applied Technology Center – $2,357,000. Frontier Community College requested funding for a Student Education and Support Center – $3,440,000. Lincoln Trail College and Wabash Valley College capital project requests have been approved and are on the Fiscal 2019 Capital Budget Recommendation.
Trustees approved a change in the Radiography Program Enrichment Fee structure to change the current fee of $60 for six semesters of enrollment to $70 for five semesters of enrollment. Overall program hours have not been reduced, the hours have been redistributed across the other semesters.
An affiliation agreement was approved for Wabash Valley College’s Basic Nurse Assistant Program with Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehabilitation, located in Mt. Carmel.
A resolution was adopted authorizing the permanent transfer of approximately $20,000 in interest earned in the Working Cash Fund to the General Fund.
A resolution was adopted authorizing inter-fund loans during the 2018 fiscal year, with the loans to be repaid to the original fund within one year.
A public hearing on the community college district budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2017 was set for Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at the hour of 7:00 p.m., at Frontier Community College, Fairfield, Illinois. The tentative budget will be available for public inspection at the District Business Office, 233 East Chestnut Street, Olney, on or after Wednesday, August 9, 2017.
A resolution was adopted to authorize certain expenditures from the Operations and Maintenance Fund, such as custodial salaries and utility bills.
Brandon Benton was employed as Head Baseball Coach at Frontier Community College, effective June 22, 2017.
A change in status was approved for Trina Dunkel as Office Assistant, Applied Arts,
Wabash Valley College, to Office Assistant, Financial Aid, Wabash Valley College, effective June 21, 2017.
A resignation ratification was approved for Jessica Pierson, Administrative Assistant, Wabash Valley College, effective August 21, 2017.
Special Assignments were approved for fiscal year 2018 for all four colleges, including lead instructors, advisors, coordinators, managers, directors and some athletic personnel.
