Grayville Days Underway

Grayville Days kicks off festival season

The Grayville Days Festival officially opened this past weekend with the crowning of royalty, who will preside over the festivities which continue through Sunday evening.

Lexie Yon was crowned Miss Grayville Saturday night at the pageant held at the Wabash Theater in downtown Grayville.  Junior Miss Grayvllle is Alora Campbell and Savannah Howell was crowned Little Miss Grayville.

Activities continue Thursday (today-Aug.30) with the annual GCAA variety and talent show. The show will begin around 7 p.m. at the Wabash Theater. There will be a button drawing for a cash prize of $75 at the end of the show. The winner will have five minutes to claim their prize.

Friday will be a full day with action beginning around 5pm at the Grayville Senior Citizens Center for the center’s annual Chicken and noodle dinner. The cost of the dinner  is by donation.
The First Christian Churc will host an ice cream social, also from 5 until 7.

Activities will officially begin with the annual Mayor Kick-off,  as Mayor Joe Bisch welcomes everyone to the 2018 Grayville days festival.

The Friday night entertainment will be the area known 50s/60s rock band; The Duke Boys. The popular tri-state band will take the main stage at 7 and play until about 10. Friday’s activities will conclude with another button drawing, and again the winner has five minutes to claim their prize.

Saturday is a full day beginning with the Churchman’s Breakfast at the First Christian Church. At 8, the Guardian Center will host the Firecracker 5K run/walk Challenge. Registation will run from 7 until 7:45 at the Depot.

At 9 Saturday morning, the vendor/craft fair will get underway downtown.

The Baby Derby winner will be announced on the main stage around 10, to be followed by the Grayville senior citizens luncheon, running from 11 to 1.

The annual parade will begin at 3 Saturday afternoon, with line-up to begin earlier at the Grayville School.

There will be two bands entertaining Saturday night. Back Paiges, will take the stage around 6:30 and play until 8:30. A Tom Petty tribute band; Southern Accents will wrap up the music, playing from 9 until 11 p.m.  And another button drawing will be held around 10 p.m….with five minutes for the winner to claim their prize.

Graville Days will wrap up Sunday. The day includes a townwide church service at the Wabash Therater at 10 Sunday morning.

Hill side washer pitching will be at the park, with singles play to begin at 10. Doubles action will get underway around noon.

Rodney Watts and Soldier’s Pride, a country music act will entertain from 6:15 until around 8:15 Sunday night.

The annual fireworks display will be held around 8:30. That will be followed by the announcement of all of the winners of the various raffles held throughout the celebration.

A blues/Motown band; the Eric Blue Band will entertain from 9 until 11 wrapping up this year’s festivities.

The final button drawing, worth at least $200 will be held at 10 p.m., that will include any unclaimed prize money.  And like, the other button drawings, the winner must  claim their prize within five minutes of the drawing.
