Illinois State Police District 19 responded to a 4 vehicle traffic crash resulting in minor injuries Sunday evening around 5:33 PM on Illinois Route 1, just south of White County Road 875 N. 34 year old Theresa Back of Eldorado was northbound on Route 1 when her 2010 Kia Soul crossed the centerline into the southbound lane striking a 2001 Dodge Van driven by Rachelle Huebele, 48 of Carmi, along with passengers Jacob Huebele, 22 of Carmi, Josephine Hubele, 21 of Carmi, and Hannah Lueke, 17 of Carmi. Back’s vehicle became disabled in the roadway, while Huebele’s vehicle went off the east side of the roadway and down an embankment. A 2016 Lexus driven by 78 year old Carolyn Price of Norris City was southbound and struck Back’s disabled vehicle, becoming disabled in the northbound lane. A 2016 Buick driven by Kaliegh Phillips, 18 of Grayville, was also southbound and struck Back’s disabled vehicle, causing both vehicles to go off the west side of the roadway. Only minor injuries were reported and those injured were taken to local hospitals by private vehicles.
Illinois State Police District 19 was assisted by White County First Responders, White County Ambulance, White County Sheriff’s Department, and the Norris City Police Department.
Back was issued citations for Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Reduce Speed to avoid an Accident. Further charges are pending.
