Four teens injured in crashes in Gallatin, Wayne Counties over weekend

Illinois State Police District 19 troopers investigated two traffic crashes over the weekend, sending four individuals to area hospitals.

Saturday afternoon, troopers say a 16 year old juvenile was travelling west on Illinois Route 13 in Gallatin County, when at 12:30 pm, the vehicle for unknown reasons left the road near Head Lane and struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over several times.  The driver and a juvenile passenger were transported by ambulance to a local hospital before being transferred to a regional hospital.  Another passenger, 18 year old Dalton Gunter of Shawneetown, was airlifted to a regional hospital.  The driver was cited for improper lane usage.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department, Shawneetown Police Department, Shawneetown Fire Department, Med Force Ambulance Service, Air Evac, and C & T Towing.

 

Early Sunday morning, troopers responded to an accident on I-64 in Wayne County near mile post 94.5.  There, troopers say a 17 year old juvenile from Johnston City was travelling west at 2:43 am when the teen fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to leave the road and enter the median.  The car overturned and came to rest on its roof.  The juvenile was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and cited for improper lane usage and a graduated driver’s license violation.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Wayne City Fire Department, Wayne County Ambulance Service, and Rick’s Towing.
