Four injured in Tuesday Afternoon Auto Crash

photo from facebook

A serious accident sent 4 individuals to area hospitals yesterday afternoon.  We’re still awaiting the report and full details.  What we know is around 2pm yesterday, a black car with 3 young people inside ran a stop sign at the intersection of County Roads 800 East and 1600 North, near Carmi Christian School, and was struck by a FedEx truck.  We believe the young people were Derek York, Jaden Sturgal and Eric Shievers.  We don’t have the identity of the FedEx driver at this hour.  Sheriff Doug Maier said the wreck required 4 ambulances and two helicopters were called in.  All 4 subjects were transported to area hospitals.  Maier says two of the young men in the car were trapped inside and White County Ambulance personnel had to extricate them by removing the top of the vehicle.  The last we heard last night was that York had bruises and potentially a concussion, Shievers suffered a potential broken hip, and Sturgal, who was lifeflighted, was in the ICU at an Evansville hospital.  We expect to have more details as they become available this morning.
