Farm Accident Claims One Life

Farm Accident Claims One Life

The White County Sheriff’s Department, White County Ambulance  Service and White County Coroner’s Office responded to a rural location Saturday afternoon where a rural Carmi man was found dead under a combine header.

According to the report filed by the White County Sheriff’s Department, Michael S. Spaetti of 1402 County Road 1775 East, Carmi, contacted authorities after he found his brother, 52 year old James E. Spaetti, 1783 County Road 1451 North, underneath the head of a combine.

White County EMS Director Adam Allen, along with Deputy Sheriff Scott Cantrell arrived at the scene and then contacted Chris Marsh, White County Coroner, who pronounced the younger Spaetti deceased.

It was reported that apparently Spaetti had been working on the combine because there were hydraulic jacks and wooden blocks under the combine head. It appeared the head had became unlatched from the combine mount while James was under the header. Marsh surmised that Spaetti had died from blunt force trauma to the head and back.

Authorities responded to the scene shortly after 1 Saturday afternoon.
