It’s a White County Christmas is rapidly approaching. We need entries for the following events:
Wabash Chapter DAR is needing more artistic, creative persons and businesses to participate in DAR’s Festival of Trees, November 18 at First Mid Illinois Bank. A
full size artificial tree with a theme will be good. Come and join in the fun and festivity and display your favorite ornaments.
Call Barbara Karger-618-382-2612 or email–[email protected] for more information or to participate.
The Reindeer Run is November 18. An entry form is attached.
Parade entries are needed for this year’s It’s A White County Christmas Lighted Parade, set for Saturday, November 25 at 6:00 p.m.
This year’s theme is “A Magical Christmas;” however those entering the parade may do what they want, whether that is a float, vehicle or a walking unit, it will be accepted. The Chamber encourages all businesses, churches, youth organizations and schools to join the fun and help celebrate the holiday.
The entries do not have to be elaborate and only have one rule to follow: no Santa, as Santa Claus will arrive on the Children’s Train, which has been a part of the Carmi celebration for a number of years. For the safety of those watching the parade, especially children, the throwing of candy from moving vehicles will not be permitted.
Entry forms have been sent to a number of local businesses and past participants, but anyone not receiving a form can call the chamber office at 382-7606 to sign up for the parade. One may also register by e-mail at [email protected] or entry forms may be found at www.whitecountychristmas.com. Once the entries are received, the chamber will notify the participants of their spot in the parade line.
The It’s A White County Christmas Lighted Parade will begin at 6pm, with the line-up to begin at 5 p.m. on November 25 at the First Baptist Church parking lot. The parade will exit the parking lot through the alley onto Oak Street and then onto Third Street, where it will proceed to Stewart Street and make a right turn to Church Street and then left onto Cherry Street. The parade will proceed down Cherry Street to Main Cross, where it will turn south (right) and conclude at Veteran’s Memorial Park.
The Tree Lighting will be held immediately following the parade. Santa will then visit with the children at his house which will be located on Main Cross Street. This will be the first of many weekends through December that Santa will be taking orders from the children.
White County business owners are encouraged to decorate their storefronts as part of the It’s a White County Christmascelebration. A traveling trophy will be awarded to the business owner with the storefront window which best depicts the “A Magical Christmas” contest theme. Entry forms are available from the Carmi Chamber of Commerce, or by visitingwww.whitecountychristmas.com, and are due by November 10. Judging will take place November 15.
For more information or to enter, one may contact Carmi Chamber of Commerce at 382-7606 or via e-mail at[email protected].
