Enfield Board Talks Community Center, Police Coverage for Mill Shoals and More

The Enfield Village Board held their regular monthly meeting Tuesday night for about two hours and accomplished many things.  Scott Mareing was there and has this report…

After much discussion, the board unanimously approved rules for using the Enfield Community Center, which were put together at last week’s special meeting. The $200 rental fee will be returned as long as things are left as they were when the people came in.  These rules will be soon posted in the Local News section of our website at wrul.com.  Another set of rules for large events, such as weddings, are being written up now.

The Village of Mill Shoals is offering to let Enfield use their police vehicle in exchange for Police coverage for Mill Shoals.  The vehicle, which is a 2014 model with 123,000 miles on it, is in excellent condition with several new parts, and all it needs is a radio.  The board agreed to draw up a contract with Mill Shoals to use their police vehicle for 13 months for $11,700, which is due to that being the cost of police service at the regular rate of $75 an hour for three hours each week.  At the end of the period, the police vehicle would then belong to Enfield.  This is contingent on the Mill Shoals village board approving the agreement at a special board meeting to be held shortly.  The current Enfield police vehicle needs a new catalytic converter.

Springerton will soon sign a contract renewal for police service.

Some minor additions were made to the Booth School building.

They’re still working on the street lighting.

The small business grant is being redone by Village Attorney Jonathan Turpin, making some changes to it, to comply with state law.

The village is still waiting to hear from Brown & Roberts Engineering on the sewer grant.

Lemonds was able to match the offer with Expressway on the price for a new truck of $45,000.  It has been ordered and will be delivered in a couple of months.

They agreed to again table paying the dispatch fees to White County, since they’re still not due until June 1st.

The village is asking for donations to purchase Christmas lights.

The board decided to sell the twenty acres behind the park for $6,000 an acre.

Andrew Inboden has resigned from the Utilities Department and they are accepting applications for a replacement.  Starting salary is $18 an hour.

The town-wide rummage sale will be on May 17th, with village cleanup day being on May 31st.

Morgan Doggett presented the board with a federal grant for new boilers at Booth School, which should take about six months to obtain.

For anyone interested in leasing space at the Booth School this spring and summer, call Tammy at the village building at 618-384-6060.  It’s $25 inside the old classrooms or $10 for an outside space.

The board approved paying attorney Jonathan Turpin $13,820 for lawyer fees to the village.

In the Animal Control report, two dogs were picked up and they will try to adopt them out.

In the Police Report, things are going well.  Chief Titzer said they’ve brought some successful cases to the State’s Attorney’s office.

And it was agreed that the village will pay their bills online to avoid any late fees.

The Enfield Village Board adjourned at 9:03 PM.
