Dr. Pathi Addresses Kiwanis

Dr. Pathi Addresses Kiwanis

The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held on Thursday, May 2nd in the Farm Bureau basement with lunch catered by Yesterday’s. Wes Henson, NP with Ferrell Hospital Carmi Family Medicine introduced Dr. Janna Pathi as the weekly program. Dr. Pathi is a general surgeon at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado where he performs general surgeries and has a wound care clinic.

Dr. Pathi was born in India and came to New York City when he was in his mid-twenties with twenty-five dollars in his pocket and a medical degree. He stayed with a friend and would take the greyhound bus to job interviews. He started his career in Ohio and was accepted into a surgical residency program. He made Ohio his home for eleven years. He then relocated to Kentucky where he spend the remainder of his career until he semi-retired. That is when Alisa Coleman recruited him to Ferrell Hospital where he works three weeks each month. Dr. Hanni covers his week off.

Dr. Pathi report he performs general surgeries at Ferrell and feels patients can get the same care at Ferrell that they can get in big hospitals. He is excited about the building project which has begun at Ferrell and will be completed in approximately two years. Dr. Pathi stated he loves Carmi and enjoys completing wound rounds at Wabash Christian Village weekly and was complementary of the care provided to those residents. It is obvious Dr. Pathi enjoys his career after 36 years and is a huge proponent of preventative health.

In response to questions, he feels that technology and electronic medical records are the biggest changes he has seen. He said all of this is great but there is no emphasis on the human being. He encouraged patients to not be afraid to tell their provider to talk to them and stop typing in the computer. In other questions, he discussed the opioid crises, medical marijuana, measles crisis, and the importance of holistic care. The crowd was charmed by Dr. Pathi’s interesting stories and great sense of humor.

The meeting was adjourned by president, Katelyne Wolff. Next week’s program will be Martin and Bayley.
