Dr. Fred Retires Today
Dr. Fred L. Smith and Oak Street Chiropractic Care, here in Carmi has been a fixture of the city for close to 50 years.
Today, Thursday, Dec. 27, Dr. Fred, as he is fondly known, will officially retire after 48 years of successfully serving the public as a chiropractor.
The doctor recently spoke at length with WROY/WRUL General manager JC Tinsley about his retirement and plans for the day. Dr. Fred said he did not plan on becoming a chiropractor, but had been thinking about becoming a forest ranger, until a chiropractor working on his father steered him to the chiropractic profession.
A retirement party will be held from 11 this morning until about 2 this afternoon at the office at 908 Oak Street.
While Dr. Fred is retiring, Oak Street Chiropractic will continue to operate under the guidance of new owner, Dr. Patrick Haskell. who entered business with Dr. Smith two years ago with the intention of purchasing the practice.
There will be treats and refreshments available at today’s retirement party for Dr. Smith. The gathering will also serve as a way for past, present and possible new patients to get acquainted with Dr. Haskell and wish Dr. Fred the best.
