Dangerous Wind Chills Expected

The National Weather Service at Paducah, Ky has issued a wind chill advisory through Wednesday afternoon.

Very cold wind chills are expected across the tri-state, with wind chills possibly as low as 10 to 20 below zero. The affected area includes all of the Tri-state including Edwards, Hamilton, Union, Hardin, Gallatin, Saline, Union, Jackson, Franklin, Wabash, Wayne and White Counties in Southern Illinois, as well as Vanderburgh, Posey, Perry, Warrick and Gibson counties in Southwest Indiana.

Henderson, Webster and McLean counties in Kentucky are included in the advisory area.

The main timing of the advisory is from midnight tonight through noon Wednesday. The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as thirty minutes.

Local residents that must work outside are reminded to dress in layers, covering as much skin as possible. Be sure to wear warm headgear and avoid getting wet during the cold.

And while most people think of staying hydrated during hot temperatures, it is equally as important to stay hydrated as well during the extreme cold.

Take frequent breaks from the cold, by warming up inside your home, or if on a job site, inside a vehicle.

Remember, the expected wind chills will be cold enough to cause frostbite to exposed skin in less than thirty minutes.
