County Breaks Even According to 18 Audit
The White County Board held its first of two required day meeting Monday morning at the White County Courtouse upstairs courtroom and covered a considerable amount of business including a look at the 2018 Audit.
Don Hoffman with Emling and Hoffman Accounting presented the audit, explaining that the county basically broke even in the 2018 audit. He said the audit did show a cash loss of about $60,000 but overall he indicated the counties shape is not good or not bad, again saying it broke even.
He did indicate there may need to be some changes in the Sheriff’s Department commisssiary account.
In other matters, White County is now looking for a animal control officer. That followed an executive session at the end of Monday’s meeting to discuss personnel.
Earlier in the meeting, a motion to allow the local animal control officer, Wayne Spicer to use volunteers to walk the dogs in the pound and help with their care died after the motion failed to receive a second. Apparently, Spicer’s dismissal had a lot to do with social media, which Spicer has allegedly used in a derogatory manner against the county board members.
The board also approved appropriations for two bridges. The first on the Broughton Road, about two miles southwest of Norris City on Bear Creek Tributary. County Road Engineer Brian Ray explained that project will cost the county about $10,000 of the nearly $250,000 total cost of the bridge replacement.
A second bridge, that has been closed for a number of years, near Calvin will be replaced at a cost of about $400,000. However, the cost to the county and township will only be about $16,000 to $20,000 as the state and federal funds will cover the bulk of both projects.
The board approved the prevailing wage rates as mandated by the state. The board also approved it’s annual contribution of close to $5000 to the Greater Wabash Regional Planning COmmision. The next county board meeting will be Tuesday, July 9 at 7 p.m.
