A big crowd descended on downtown Carmi for the pet parade Saturday morning. In the best float division, Hadley Williams, Bradley Reavis, and Mati Orr worked together to win with their Hocus Pocus entry. 2nd place was won by Kai Wiggins, Taytem and Jagger Murray, and Ciloet McKenzie for their effort on the SS Bulldog. 3rd place was won by Nelson and Short and Holloman for their Candy Land float entry. Most Unusual pet was won by Autumn the horse featuring Barrett and Truett Edwards. 2nd was won by Mikey and Daffy Moore with Bennet, Beckam, and Banks Moore.
Best TV/Movie Character was won by Oren Williams for his take on Minions. Lola Altmann took 2nd for her Cabbage Patch entry.
Prettiest Pet was won by Lincoln Vaupel and his Corn Dog. Addy Healy won 2nd.
The Chili Cook Off got finished just in time for a brief shower. Christine Schmidt and chili master Rick Fischer were awarded Taster’s Choice for their fall brew. Tammy Smith won most team spirit for her Scary Good Chili entry. The top prize and $150 went to Liza Duckworth. Tammy Smith picked up a second $100 prize for Judge’s Honor 2nd place. Third went to Emma Lee Williams for her recipe sponsored by (and presumably made with) WP Meat Company.
Several pups also won awards Saturday morning in the first ever CornDog Pawgeant sponsored by Pets at Risk. The organization raises money to help with spaying, neutering, emergency vet bills, and simply helping animals in White County. Kenny and Lisa Carter’s dog Lizzie Bear won golden oldie for being best in show age 8+. Ruby Jean, owned by Elizabeth Gwaltney took the top puppy honors. Other winners include Louis, owned by Elizabeth Koester, for best trick. He holds 6 AKC titles and is an International National JR AIBCA Champion. Little Mr. Teddy Munchkin was named best personality. Teddy is owned by Tammy Holtzclaw of Carmi.
Kiwanis also crowned new royalty at noon. The new Corn Queen is Annsley Healy. Annsley is a 7 year member of the Enfield Blue Ribbon 4-H Club and the daughter of Phil and Holly Healy. The new Corn King is Aidan Jordan. He’s a 7 year member of the Centerville Ripsnorters 4-H Club and the son of Jimmy and April Jordan.
