The White County Sheriff’s Department took a theft report of copper wiring from a tower near Grayville owned by AT&T Monday morning, a week after the tower had been stripped of its wiring and repaired. Each time, thieves took more than 250 feet of copper, and damaged the service panel and power meter. The estimate to repair the tower each time is $10,000.
Another tower near Burnt Prairie owned by American Tower was reported to have had its copper wiring stolen over the weekend in the same manner.
Deputies also took a damage report from John Gunter in Enfield on Monday, who said that he found damage to a fence after hearing a loud noise earlier that morning.
Monday night, Richard Thomas reported to the Sheriff’s Department that someone had tried to enter his residence in Crossville. Thomas found the back door open when he had returned at 8:45 pm, but did not find anything out of place or missing. Thomas noted that he has two large dogs that may have scared off the intruder.
