Conservation Farmer of the Year
The 73rd annual meeting of the White County Soil and Water Conservation District was held Friday evening at the Floral Hall of the White County Fairgrounds, here in Carmi.
A good crowd turned out for the annual event, which included the announcement of the Conservation Farmer of the Year.
David Kingston of Norris City was honored as the Conservation Farmer of the Year. Kingston was recognized for conservation practices he follows on his Norris City area farm.
Two new directors were elected to the Soil and Water Conservation board. They are Laura Whitsett and Mark Colbert.
Long-time director Charlie Nolen did not seek re-election to the board this year. Nolen has served the district for the past 33 years.
The annual Conservation Poster contest winners were also announced during the meeting, which included a free pork loin dinner.
Bryan Tomm was the keynote speaker. He spoke about nitrogen management and electrical nitrogen stabilization.
A wide variety of door prizes, ranging from baseball caps to gift certificates were presented to those attending the annual meeting.
