City Petitions Can Be Filed Monday

City Petitions Can Be Filed Monday

Municipal elections will be held April 2 of 2019 and those interested in seeking a seat on the Carmi City Council can start filing this coming Monday, Dec. 10.

Filings must be in by the Friday of next week to be eligible for the April elections.

Locally, there are is only one race at this time and that’s in Ward Four, where current Alderman Lance Yearby announced he would not seek re-election. Yearby had picked up a petition but decided due to his many obligations, he would not seek re-election.

That has set up a race for the Ward Four seat, as Keith Davis and Jim Totten have picked up petitions indicating they plan to run for the seat.

At this time there is only one candidate in Ward One and that’s incumbent council member Jeremy Courson.

Mike Knight has no opposition in Ward Two. Knight has served on the council for several years.

There was a race in Ward Three, but there are indications that Virgil Clark, who had picked up a petition does not plan to file, leaving incumbent Mark Blake the lone candidate for the Ward Three seat.

The municipal elections, as mentioned will be held Tuesday, April 2. The polls will open at six that morning and close at 7, as the case for all elections.
