Christmas Parade Route Announced

The It’s a White County Christmas Parade, a lighted event will be get underway around 5:30 Saturday evening.

The parade will form at the First Baptist Church parking lot on Main and Oak Street. The route will leave the church on Oak Street and then turn onto Third Street, heading north to Stewart Street, where the parade will turn east and proceed to Cherry Street. At Cherry Street the parade will turn left and proceed to Main Cross. The parade will then turn south, (right) and proceed across Main Street to Veteran’s Park, where the parade will end at Santa’s headquarters.

All streets intersecting the parade route will be blocked beginning at 5:30 and remain blocked until the parade clears and it is safe to allow normal traffic to resume.

Carmi Chief of Police Jason Carter said all intersections will be manned by Carmi Police and Auxiliary Officers, along with Carmi Fire and EMA personnel, who will assist with safety during the event. The public is encouraged to be aware of this temporary restriction of streets and to adjust their travel plans.

Following the parade, the tree lighting ceremony will take place at Veteran’s Memorial Park and Santa will be visiting with the children until about 9.
Chief Carter urged everyone to use caution in the area as there will be a lot of traffic and pedestrian congestion in the area.

Carter said, “We hope the public comes out to celebrate the kick-off to the Christmas season and we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable time.”
