Check for Cash
Each year, thousands of state checks payable to taxpayers go uncashed.
With that in mind, Illinois Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza invites local residents to a Check for Cash event, coming up from 10 til noon on Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Carmi Public Library at 103 Slocumb Street.
The event will allow taxpayers to learn whether they are owed uncashed state checks worth more than $5 and were issued within the last ten years.
If an uncashed check, also called an escheated warrant, is located, the check replacement process can also be started at the meeting.
The comptroller currently has records of more than 100,000 uncashed checks worth over $30 million.
