The Carmi Chamber of Commerce officially has a new Executive Director. Chamber president Justin Dartt announced Monday afternoon that Shana Northcott, a born and raised native of Carmi has accepted the role. Northcott has spent the last 3 decades serving as a District Probation Officer. A job that keeps her incredibly busy. In fact, we got together to talk at 9pm on a Monday night while she was finishing up. So, as she describes it, Northcott wasn’t really actively searching for a new career.
“I did not want to have to leave town. I wanted to stay here. And you know, I work all the time so it was difficult to even find the time to dig in and find out what’s available around here, so when this person came to me, I felt like it was fate. I went home and got to thinking about it and I wanna give back and I wanna be around people and I want to be positive.”
She says she found out about the opening at the Chamber on her 30th anniversary at that job, June 12th. After discussing it with her husband Rick,
“he said you know I think you’d be great I think you need to apply for that. So I reached out to Justin Dartt to find out a little more about it. I just think my personality [is right for it] and I feel like I’ve reached a point in my career, I’ve helped a lot of people, it’s time for a career change. I wanna do what I can for our community and give back on a positive note.”
She’ll attend her first meeting on Thursday. Northcott has a husband of 31 years, Rick, and a total of 5 children, Neal and Bryce Northcott along with 3 grown step children, Brandon, Kelsey and Jessica. Northcott’s father Sam Stone owned Stone Oil Company. He later sold the company and retired prior to his passing in 2006. Mr. Stone was a key player in bringing a coal mine to White County. Northcott officially takes on her role as Executive Director in August.
