Cave In Rock Ferry Closed
Due to the rising flood waters, the Cave-In-Rock Ferry has halted operations effective 6 p.m. February 12th. It will likely remain closed through February 24th and possibly longer if flooding continues.
Typically, the ferry halts operations when floodwaters about 42 ft. putting it over KY 91 on the Kentucky Landing approach.
Between Kentucky and Illinois, the ferry carries about 500 vehicles across the Ohio River daily.
When the ferry it out of order, commuters will have to travel an extra 85 miles or drive an extra 90 minutes.
Ferry operator Lonnie Lewis says flooding is a part of life on the river.
