Cave In Rock Ferry Back to Full Hours
The Ohio River ferry between Illinois and Kentucky will resume full service Monday after operating on limited hours the past three months.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said Friday that a new funding agreement among Illinois, Kentucky and the Ohio River Authority returns the Cave-in-Rock Ferry to a 16-hour-per-day, seven-day-a-week schedule. The ferry connecting Cave-in-Rock, Illinois with Marion, Kentucky, has been operating 12 hours per day since July 1.
Illinois Department of Transportation and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will split $2.15 million in funding to the Ohio River Authority through June 30, 2020, to cover the cost of running a year-round ferry service and to pay for upgrades so the ferry meets new Coast Guard guidelines.
The ferry carries about 500 vehicles per day on average.
