Carmi White County School Board Meeting; Busy and Productive

The annual audit for fiscal year 2018 was presented by Krista McLaren of Kemper CPA in Olney.  She said it went smoothly and the district is doing very well.  No funds were spent in a wrong manner.

Transportation director Bart King gave an update on the district vehicles and the current bus lease agreement.  He came up with three year and five year plans to purchase buses currently being leased.  The board gave King permission to get obtain bids with final approval to come at the November  meeting.

The district has received several federal and state grants totaling just over $1.16 million to provide for significant student opportunities and programs.  They will work to obtain additional competitive grant funds.

The board approved, as required by the state, a Short-Term Substitute Teacher Training Program to obtain a short-term teaching license.

In the superintendent’s report, Brad Lee said Red Ribbon Week Activities will begin October 22nd and run through the 26th.  The theme is “Be You, Be Unique, Be Drug Free.”

Principal Appreciation Day is October 26th.  Lee thanked district administrators for their dedication to their jobs and the work they do for the district.

They’ve received to date just over $2 million from three years of revenue from the county school’s facility tax.

Changes to six board policies were approved and a board policy was adopted.

And the board approved requiring school board members to fill out an estimated expense approval form for expense requests for travel, meals and/or lodging.  Hotel expenses will be paid by the district and board members will be reimbursed for their mileage.

The board went into closed session at 7:46 PM to discus personnel and the sale or purchase of real property.
