Carmi Rotary remembers one of their own at Thursday meeting

The Carmi Rotary club held a sad meeting on Thursday as they discussed the passing of long time Rotarian Kelly Pyle. Kelly passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday of this week.

The Rotarians used their weekly meeting to share their memories of Kelly. Every Rotarian that spoke told stories of how Kelly seemed so much younger than his actual age, and how he was always filled with energy and optimism.

It was mentioned by several members of the club, Kelly’s work at every one of the Rotary trivia contests. As it was said, Kelly always managed to give hints that almost gave away the answers, falling just short of giving it away. He also managed to say “the next question is from the world of geometry” at almost every event, (instead of geography). The club noted the looks of panic on the trivia teams when he made that gaffe.

One Rotarian told how she laughed at his “Blind Man Driving” bumper sticker on the back of his truck. When asked about it, Kelly would explain that it had nothing to do with his eye sight, but rather with the fact that he sold blinds.

It was noted that Kelly was not only a strong Rotarian, but also very involved with the Baptist Children’s Home. Because of that passion, the club voted to donate fifty dollars to the Children’s Home in Kelly’s name.

Rotarian and Pastor Randy Douglass took a moment to read from Corinthians chapters 4 and five, and said a brief prayer before the club was dismissed.

Kelly will be missed by the Carmi Rotary club.

In club business, tickets were handed out for the upcoming chili supper, which will be held on Saturday, January 14th at the new Lion’s Den in Carmi. Tickets are only $7 per person and can purchased from any Carmi Rotarian or at the door the night of the event.

In a family affair, visitor Todd Drone won the 50/50 raffle but did not claim the day’s cash jackpot. Todd’s father, Don Drone was named as the day’s phantom.

The Carmi Rotary club meets every Thursday at noon at the First United Methodist Church in Carmi. Anyone wishing to learn more about this worldwide civic club is more than welcome to attend a meeting or speak with any Carmi Rotarian.
