
Carmi Police handled a handful of arrests over the weekend beginning with a Friday mid day arrest of a Fairfield man. Officers were on routine patrol around a quarter after 11am when they say 48-year-old Donald Sims of Fairfield was pulled over near the intersection of 8th and Oak for not having brake lights. Once pulled over, law enforcement found Sims was driving on a revoked license among other infractions including Possession of Cannabis in a motor vehicle and No Proof of Insurance. He was taken into custody and booked at the White County Jail where he’d be released with a Notice to Appear just after 12:30pm.
Saturday evening just after 5:30, officers made an arrest on Sycamore at 6th Street. 36-year-old Oscar Bartlett, a local man was picked up on a book and release warrant for Criminal Damage to Property (more than $500). No online court records provide any scope on that warrant as of Monday morning. Bartlett was given Pre-Trial Release and out of jail shortly after 6pm.
Sunday afternoon, Carmi Police say they responded to a domestic dispute at a home on Walnut Street. After investigation, police placed 39-year-old Alex Smock of that address under arrest and are charging him with Domestic Battery. The alleged victim, a 33-year-old female along with 15 and 2-year-old were on scene as well. Smock was taken into custody and will remain behind bars until he can be seen by a judge.
Late Sunday night, Carmi Police arrested 39-year-old Nicholas Voelker of Norris City. Law enforcement pulled Voelker over at Burrell and Bob Martin. He’s being charged with Unlawful use of a Weapon. He was released with a Notice to Appear and will be due in court April 15th at 9am. The driver in the vehicle, a white female was cited for Operation of a Motor Vehicle with Suspended Registration due to Mandatory Insurance and released from the scene with a Notice to Appear.
