A Carmi man arrested early Tuesday morning through the combined efforts of Carmi Police and White County Sheriff’s deputies is now facing additional charges. It was just after 2am when officers descended on 701 Sixth Street taking into custody 30-year-old Melvin Lewis. He was wanted on a felony parole warrant out of Indiana. In the process, Lewis picked up new charges including 3 counts of felony Aggravated Battery of a Police Officer along with a misdemeanor charge of Resisting a Peace Officer. Lewis will remain behind bars while awaiting court hearings.
