A Carmi man was killed in a single vehicle accident in Wayne County Monday evening. Illinois State Police District 19 troopers responded to the scene on the Burnt Prairie blacktop at 5:45pm, where according to the preliminary crash investigation, 60 year old Gene Desper was travelling south when he ran off the right side of the road and over corrected, causing his vehicle to overturn.
Desper, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Fairfield Memorial Hospital by the Wayne County Ambulance Service, where he was pronounced deceased. District 19 troopers were assisted by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, the Fairfield Rural Fire Department, and the Wayne County Ambulance Service.
