Illinois State Police responded to a fatal accident in White County Sunday night.
The crash happened around 5:45pm on U.S. Route 45 at County Road 400 North, known locally as Bear Creek between Gigs and Gossett Road.
Officials say that 78 year old Billy Wagner of Carmi was driving a gold Chrysler Town & Country van northbound when he crossed over the center line and struck the back of a tractor trailer, then hit a pickup truck that was following head on.
45 year old Chad Mayes of Geff, IL was driving the tractor trailer. The driver of the pickup truck, 50 year old Lynnia Mayes, also of Geff, was taken to Fairfield Memorial Hopsital with minor injuries. Wagner was pronounced dead on scene.
The road was closed for more than 4 hours while crews worked to treat those involved and to subsequently clean up the roadway from debris.
